Here may be a solution for not having to take your state issued DL over the border. A travel agency suggested this site http://www.fastidl.com for $20 you can get an International drivers license. If you use it with a color copy of your state DL or Passport you should be legitimate to cross back over the border to the USA. If you should be mugged or lose your wallet you won't lose your state issued DL and have to go through the hassle of replacing it. Always carry an extra color copy of you DL or Passport on a different part of your person besides your wallet..... so if you lose your wallet you have something identifying who you are.
