This is happening increasingly right now. I would recommend that if you have to take your car into the zone do not take it in the area of the bars. There are parking to the north and south prior the bars. The lot to the south is the best. If you come into town from the boarder go to Nino Heros and make a right off third. Make a left on Calle Primera (the cops have a trap set up in the block prior Coahuila at the turn off Nino's, that is a bad corner). At the stop sign make a right down to Coahuila. The next right will put on Coahuila. Down two blocks and the parking is on your right. The cost is $5 for 24 hours (noon - noon).
As mentioned, they will take all that you have in your wallet. If you are carrying a lot of cash it is wise to not keep it all in your wallet. It is wise to keep at least 60 in your wallet. If you do not have at least that, you stand a good chance of being searched. I would also recommend that if you find yourself in TJ a lot to keep some pesos handy. You will be surprised how different you are treated if all they see is pesos.
