My suggestion is to avoid it. When it comes right down to it, it is worthless unless you are a totally bad driver. If you get in an accident, and it is your fault, pay the guy off quick, and get the hell out of there before the cops arrive to take their cut. If you get in an accident, and it is not your fault, get the guy to pay you off quick, and get the hell out of there. If you get in a major accident, no matter whose fault it is, may God have mercy on your soul. In the many years I've been driving down there, I've only been asked for my insurance once. I handed the guy my American insurance papers, and he didn't say shit. However, I have had to shell out the Moridida on more than a few occasions(but never for no insurance). I'd say that less than 5% of Mexicans carry insurance. When in Rome...
