"Drugs may ruin the lives of individuals who make the choice to abuse them, but they are not a significant cause of crime. Drug Prohibition is a significant cause of crime...the most significant cause." I agree Erip, wholeheartedly...Something like 90 percent of those incarcerated in US prisons (the nation with most per capita incarcerated individuals in the world) are there for non-violent drug offenses...possesion, etc... 2 million prisoners at about 24K a year each to maintain...What an industry! Texas is now using private "McPrisons" to assist in incarcerating their burgeoning prison population. And the biggest union and lobbying group (in terms of money spent to "install" candidates) in our great state of California is the "Prison Guards Union". I know Mexico functions under the Napoleonic Code where one is assumed guilty until one proves one's innocence...the opposite of the assumption of guilt in the USA... |
