I am a bit of an expert on this subject, having brought a few cars to Mexico for their final years. Whatever you do - don't EVER have the fucking thing put in your name. As for her, I'd like to know what her final plans are for the heap - is it her intention to get Baja plates, or not? If not - then she is a crook at heart(that isn't bad, mind you). So - you will have to find someone stupid enough to sell you a car without asking for your driver's license - then just take the junkpile across the border with a copy of the the bill of sale and pink slip. Do not - I REPEAT - do not put the piece of shit in your name, or have your name associated with the piece of shit. If she gets busted, and has to pay a fine, or get's the shitpile impounded, so what. I went this route with my girlfriend with an old '84 Nissan Maxima. The piece of shit eventually got ripped off down there - que sera. Now, let's say she does want to get the thing legally registered. Once again, the first thing is to try to find some schmuck that isn't going to ask a lot of questions and get your driver's license number involved. Second, take the piece of crap to a reputable import dealer in TJ - there is a shitload of them right next to the Tijuana DMV off the Via Rapida, and another shitload of them near the border(just to the North of Plaza Amigo). SHE(and I repeat - SHE) will have to pay about $550 to get an under $1000 jalopy registered legal-beagle in Baja California. I actually accomplished this for my girlfriend(who I'm back with again - cause she was the only one available to bail me out of the TJ jail on Friday night) with a Ford Taurus we currently "cruise around" in. BTW - I expect her main reason for getting you involved in "acquiring" the vehicle for her, is so that you will foot the bill for the whole episode.
