I think you should spend some time over there first and learn the bar ways before you sell everything and move over. Talk to other bar owners, try to work in a bar, and listen to their stories. From what I understand, owning a bar in Thailand is not all it is cracked up to be. Foreigners CANNOT own property in Thailand so everything will have to be in a Thai partner’s name. It may be YOUR money, but since you don't own anything legally they can royally screw you. No contract is valid unless it is written in Thai. I have heard lots of horror stories about owning a bar in Thailand. I would definitely do your research and due diligence before selling everything and going over there. If you are American, I believe they are one of the only foreigners that can legally own land and property, but I don't know the specifics behind it. If you think you are just going to go over there, open a bar and then live the easy life, I think you are mistaken.
