I am speaking from experience. We were in Cascadas during fight weekend. But that was because we checked in on Thursday. I don't know if the hotel was sold out that weekend,
but Mari was very busy that weekend. I guess it depends on when you are looking. I believe that she was standing there when you say, but she was gone for much of the weekend as we went in and out of the entrance many times. I am not sure how you can judge her whereabouts and the business of the lobby or the sightings of long time guests as to if there are vacancies or not.
The previous weekend, we tried to check in at 4 PM. Cascadas was sold out. I was told by the clerk that you need reservations for checking in on Fridays and Saturdays and you don't need reservations for checking in on the other days. That is because they always sell out over the weekends. I ended up staying at La Mansion for a great stay. So I am speaking from direct experience of staying there often.

Again, I don't know if the boycott is working. But the hotel has rooms on the weekdays, and not on the weekends (unless you have reservations). There are exceptions, but the last 2 weekends are not among them.

well as a guest of cascades, you'd know, but I was there about 11:30-12:30 if I remember correctly. I was recharging and hanging with a friend who was trying to decide on a SG. Long story short, we ended up hanging between cascades and edwardos, where I saw mari and the crew stand for a really long period of time....the most I've ever witnessed. Isabel was going up as per regular though

Cascadas is easily the best place to stay overnight in the Zona, and the rooms are worth whatever price they charge. If you can score a room on the upper floors with A/C (surely still the ONLY Zona hotel with air-con/HEAT), it easily drowns out the hallway noise that can indeed be bad as bargirls come parading home in the middle of the night/morning after their shift, and the jizz cleaners that start work about 8:30 AM seem to compete with each other as to how frickin' annoying they can be by making noise in the hallways.

As a comparison, try getting most Zona bargirls to go for a short-time at Hotel Leyva or other total shithholes that abound there that rent rooms all night. They'll laugh their asses off at you unless you are a regular customer or they are desperate skanks.

The only other place that compares to Cascadas is the Hotel Coahuila, which is also famous for not having rooms available overnight on weekends. The Hotel Coahuila is a total TRIP and I highly recommend trying it to get the Zona experience, but Cascadas kicks its ass in every possible way unless you're focusing almost exclusively on Adelitas girls.

I slightly admire those of you who are encouraging a boycott of Cascadas, but you are committing the ULTIMATE act of spitting into the wind: That whole management group (La Tropa, Cascadas, Miami, Tropical, Hotel ZN, Las Chavelas, Rizo de Oro, et. al) could not possibly care less about some unionized gringos and their collective spending power. They view us all as horny white-bread idiots (partially true), and a small group of outliers isn't gonna make a dent in their thinking.

Oh, and as for fight night dynamics, the girls take a BATH. They spend hours standing around bored while guys watch the fight (always FREE in Mexico -- El Paso, TX bars were advertising $20 cover charges last weekend), then afterwards, the locals are so tanked that they just go home and pass out. From what I saw, the Zona was always eerily quiet ~ midnight on a fight night.

Oh, and to follow up on a comment that street girls may be forced off the street soon as TJ's 'finest' are given orders to clean up the 'callejon': Curious reported YEARS back that the little alcove by the stairs in the alley entrance to Cascadas was built to accomodate the eventuality that street girls would be prohibited from displaying their wares outside, effectively turning it into a brothel-esque waiting room. While it remains to be seen if this indeed plays out, the Cascadas people sure were prepared for it a long time back. Shit like THAT is what the management people at Cascadas pay attention to, not a bunch of whiny-ass gringos.

Porker, very good points made in your post. It all seems to come together now...the lobby improvements and the redesigning of the lobby interior.

Although I hardly doubt the proprietors of the Hotel Las Cascadas indeed had the intestinal fortitude to foresee construction advancement projects as a means which would clearly have an impact on street prostitution, thereby accomodating ex-SG's in refugee status.

If that's the case, then good for them. But even though our Internet discussion boycott won't even put a slight dent in their savings account, I still feel it necessary to abide by the "gentlemans agreement" so to speak, and not set foot in there, not so much for the sake of my penis, but for the sake of principal.

How many times have you yourself stayed overnight there, done two or three chicas and tipped everybody from the cum-clean-up-employees to the security guard Maury who walks the hallways and who takes the added initiative to keep an eye on your room while you're downstairs somewhere mongering?

In reality, it's the little guys who suffer. It's the hotel clerks, the security guard, the cum-clean-up-guys, it's the employees who do a somewhat half-ass job in making our stay welcome.

I still feel the boycott is necessary, and for the ill-mannered bastards at the rear entrance lobby who don't know how to treat a good-tipping guest, (I'm referring to a past incident with me bringing up my first hooker of the evening, only to be hassled by two of the employees at the desk) I think the owners of the hotel might consider putting their unethically-made profits to good use and send some of their employees to customer relations training as a prerequisite to getting hired.

Personally, I'd prefer not to tip ANYBODY in TJ and pay the price increases at Cascadas. I've never lacked for a cold beer in front of me, and never got a goddamned thing from a jizz-cleaner type at a hotel except 'fuck off, gringo, we're full', plus the always nice early knock on the door. I don't care what position guys hold while working in the Zona: They're minions with no power to help you -- even IF they had the desire to do so, and 95% of them are the absolute scum of the Earth. Keep that in mind and go about your merry way down there. Less of you guys at Cascadas mean a better chance that I'll get a room there on my increasingly more infrequent visits.

Oh, and if any of you think that a weekend 'reservacion' at Cascadas will even be worth the price of the phone call, you're the ultimate optimist that looks for a pony in a room piled high with horseshit. They'll laugh at you as they hang up and talk about how idiotic your Spanish sounds to them.

Has anybody got any info on the cute bartender or asst bartender that works days. A little chunky and not my type but somehow she is a cutie. Spoke with her a bit but didn't pursue anything. Would like to know if I'm barking up the wrong tree or is there a chance to take her up? Any info would be appreciated.

Pecs, what a coincidence you should post this. I just returned from TJ and met this cute slightly chunky assistant bartender at the LC. By the looks of things, I'd say she's a few months pregnant.

She has a great smile and is very talkative although at other times she's a little shy. While talking to her the other day, I was also wondering the same thing, if she goes up.

I would have been there but I got sick earlier in the week from a bad upper chest cold fever cough that I caught from an Amnesia stripper last Saturday.

If these other chicas in any bar are "worth" $50 or $60, then Claudia is certainly worth $80. She's not exactly my type physically, but she's like a young Cande or Tania in her level of service (including all the DFK and fake romantic intensity you can handle), she's absolutely charming, speaks English and is a professional in every positive sense of that word.

So you go up with some AB hottie and have a typical highly regulated robotic session and pay $60 - and you hit the streets feeling satisfied but like you've been there 500 times before. You give a chica like Claudia an extra $20 and you hit the streets in flight because you've just had a specially outstanding experience that will rank among the best you ever had.

I don't believe in "overpaying" but paying premium for extraordinary performers to deliver extraordinary experiences is a bargain. I've had a few hundred $40-60 dollar sessions in TJ that completely elude memory now. I will never forget my one $80 half hour with Claudia. So that is where the value was.

Her popularity says it all. Virtually every dude she takes for 30 minutes pays her $80 and she's just about impossible to hook-up with because her guys keep coming back for more and more and more. I was fortunate to be introduced to her by one of her admirers a few months ago. The next night I made a point to be standing at the entrance when she reported for work. That worked and I had my one incredible session with her. Haven't been able to catch a glimpse of her since.

It is really quite simple. She understands that she charges more than the going rate and she's committed to providing service commensurate with her price.

BTW, LC is my favorite zona bar when the selection is good. It is always popular and alive. But it tends to be way up and down in chica quality. I haven't seen a single hottie in there in months (since the weekend I met Claudia - a weekend when there were a dozen or more other doables in LC). Not one!

good posts guys. I couldnt agree with erip more in that this is also my favorite spot. Waiters chicas are friendly music is good and it is an all around fun place. I will not pay 80 for claudia or anyone else. I am down in tj once or more a wk and if I get into this habit of going up with overpriced chicas, I will go broke in a short amt of time. Mari de Culiacan was working at LC last week, night shift. Often moves between LC & BT, if business is slow at LC she walks over to BT, & vice versa.

Was in there a couple of days ago and noticed a new herd of chicas in there during the day and at night also.

The talent line-up seems to have improved. I think we need a chica review update.
