Folks: I drove TJ from the Bay Area last week in my finely-tuned, valve-adjusted, V6 Camry (yess!!), and, for the first time, paid close attention to my progress vis-a vis recognizable landmarks: The results: Leaving San Jose at 10am I was out onto I-5 at 11am, and, taking 405, crossed Mulholland Drive in LA at 2:30 pm...I passed the Westminster Mall at 3:30 pm (thus, 1 hr to get thru LA) and, after battling traffic North of San Diego, dropped safely into Chula Vista at 5:30... The Conclusions: Total drive time: 7 1/2 hours...if I had timed it better and left at say, 8 am-- putting me thru LA at 12:30 and the outskirts of San Diego at 2 pm-- I truly feel I could have made it in 6 1/2 hours... The Questions: Which is faster in passing thru LA-- in both off-times and commute times-- 405 or 5?... Do I gain anything by taking the toll road South of Long Beach?...will it help me to avoid some of the traffic North of San Diego?... Thanks... YoungBrig
